Indian Masala Chai

Everyone in India seems to have their own special family blend for Masala Chai, and there are lots of blends for sale in the US (e.g., this one on Amazon). I bought a small amount from Shashi in Udaipur, India, but I wanted to make my own as well (for fun and for when I run out).

The Spices in Masala Chai

Here are the spices I used for my mix (there are lots of different possibilities, but these are some of the basic ones). Feel free to Pin the photo below! (There are links to purchase the individual spices in the recipe box below.)

Making Masala Chai (Tea)

Masala Chai is often not Paleo, so here’s a Paleo coconut masala chai tea recipe you can make with this masala chai spice blend.

And if you’re in a hurry, then you can make a super fast masala chai (tea) by making black tea (from a teabag with hot water), adding a pinch of masala chai spice into the hot tea, and then adding coconut or almond milk.

What a fantastic visit you must have had. The colours, sounds and scents must be amazing. I’ve never tasted chai before so I’ll have a go!

When I was deployed to Qatar I had the most amazing chai I’ve ever tasted! Thank you for this recipe. Love the pictures of India and I’m so glad you had such a nice time. India isn’t considered a vacation spot to most people but, I think the people, culture and food can’t be beat. I’m hoping to make it there someday.
